The College of Engineering has the mission to educate engineering professionals who can meet broad responsibilities in a society in which public welfare depends heavily on engineers' work. The curriculum in engineering provides a balanced program in mathematics, basic sciences, engineering sciences, engineering design, social sciences, and humanities. The College of Engineering pursues advancement of knowledge among students, faculty and industrial communities. The College is committed to expand its role as a major research power and foster the tradition of excellence in engineering education, and continues to invest in engineering strengths to reflect the rapid technological advancement in our time. The College includes the Department of Architecture, Department of Architecture Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy and Resources Engineering, Advanced Materials Science and Engineering, Bioengineering and Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The College of Engineering was established in 1979. It now comprises of 11 programs. There are approximately, 2,200 undergraduate and graduate students, around 81 faculty and administrative staffs.     The Department of Architecture at Kangwon University was established in 1977 and was accredited by KAAB(Korea Architectural Accrediting Board) in 2007, and has an excellent reputation in Korea.

    The Architecture is requiring learning of professional practice, personal artistic development and technical knowledge of building and knowledge of history and tradition. Our teaching staff consists of leading practitioners who have an active career in design projects, competitions and exhibitions, research. The Goals of Architectural Major is providing the education to our students to have taken an active part in the board field of architectural design and history and to become leaders of the field.     • Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering is the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.

      It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, coastal engineering, materials engineering transportation engineering, water resources engineering, construction engineering, surveing & geo-sapatial engineerin and municipal or urban engineering. Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies. The Department of Civil Engineering is a broad and diverse engineering discipline that deals with many aspects of improving the human living environment, e.g., water resource management, constructing stable buildings and bridges, safe environmental systems, building dams for hydropower and flood control, providing comfortable work environment. Today our professors and researchers are working on problems that go far beyond these traditional applications with innovative approaches needed to survive in a global society.

      The Department of Civil Engineering involves the application of principles of physics, mathematics, thermodynamics, control, energy, mechanics and physiology to designing and manufacturing the built artifacts and systems. It has been one of the fundamental engineering disciplines and recently combines emerging technologies such as IT, NT and BT.

      The “Department of Material Science and Engineering” at the Kangwon National University (KNU) was established in 1979 to ensure that KNU achieves excellence in education and research in the field of material science and engineering. In 2013 the department name changed to the “Department of Nano Applied Engineering”. The change of department name reflects the increasing public awareness on advanced materials and nano-technology. 8 faculty members are currently reading the cutting-edge technologies covering especially NT (nano-technology), ET (energy technology), and BT (bio-technology) in the department.     • Department of Chemical Engineering has turned out about 800 chemical engineers after establishment in 1986, who play brilliant roles in the field of chemical engineering industry.

      Currently seven faculty members teaches major subjects of chemical engineering at the graduate and undergraduate school. Thus, master and Ph.D. courses are opened for the education of experts. Each faculty operates research laboratory, and students can take the chance to learn advanced technologies at the laboratory by performing research works for the development of science and technologies in chemical engineering.

      Students in the bachelor's course take ABEEK educational program as a engineering accreditation. Variety of major subjects are opened such as thermodynamics, reaction engineering, transport phenomena, separation process, process control, bio-materials, polymers, electrochemistry, chemical-plant design, etc. Experiment class at the laboratories opened in each semester furnishes the chance to learn research skill, treatment of chemical materials and handling of equipments. Students present papers for the bachelor's degree after research at each laboratory under the guidence of advisor.

      Graduates can get opportunities of finding jobs at the industries and institutes as engineers or researchers in the fields of manufacturing of advanced materials, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, polymers, biotechnology, environmental engineering and health care.
